Runway Report: Fendi SS19

Millennial pink colored the ceiling and floors of Fendi’s traditional runway location, during Milan Fashion Week. Silvia Venturini Fendi, as tradition carries, designed detailed and boldly proportioned handbags. The bags were compartmental and carried way onto actual garments as well. A refreshing new color palette awoke the collection- one color in particular, titled Lobster Orange by Karl Lagerfeld himself. The tones and hues proved to elevate the collection.

The collection itself in no way introduced a frugality, as transparent plastic, leather and fur was included in various forms. Oversized jackets with ruching as well as gauze gowns, that held embroidered flowers walked the runway. In comparison to recent seasons’ logomania, the Fendi logo sat somewhere back seat this season, commanding a bit less attention than previously. Monogramming proved lighter.

The collection was intended for the functionality of everyday. There was an air of acknowledgment on Lagerfeld’s behalf, to the movement towards casual. Sportswear, with proper tailoring. Pockets were the star of the collection, noted by Lagerfeld as the collection title- further bringing attention to the frequency of oversized pockets featured. Architectural capelets and baseball jackets proved a lovely touch. The collection was detailed, consistent and once more, proof that dynamic duos don’t cease to exist today- in this case, the matrimonial match of Silvia Venturini Fendi and Karl Lagerfeld.
